  • Eating Before Massage Therapy or Yoga

For your comfort and safety, please avoid eating a heavy meal immediately before your appointment or yoga class.

Receiving a deep tissue or therapeutic massage on a full stomach can be uncomfortable, particularly if your session includes abdominal or visceral work. We recommend waiting at least two hours after eating before receiving massage therapy.

Likewise, yoga is best practiced on an empty or nearly empty stomach. Twisting, bending, and other yoga postures can become uncomfortable after a meal and may interfere with digestion. Whenever possible, allow at least three hours after a heavy meal before attending a yoga class.

If needed, a light snack one to two hours before class is generally well tolerated.

Thank you for helping us create the most comfortable and beneficial experience possible.

  • You will not slow down the class, but you may find it more enjoyable to begin with a beginner-friendly or slow-moving yoga class. These classes provide a comfortable pace for learning the fundamentals and building confidence in your practice.

Regardless of your experience level—whether you are completely new to yoga or have practiced for many years—it is important to listen to your body. Honoring your body's needs and limitations is perhaps one of the most essential aspects of a safe and rewarding yoga practice.

Remember, yoga is not about how advanced a posture looks; it is about developing awareness, balance, and a deeper connection with yourself.

  • Wear loose-fitting work-out clothes you feel comfortable in. During the winter season, you might want to bring warmer clothing to class.

  • Yes, investing in a yoga mat is a great idea. Yoga mats are widely available and can be purchased at affordable prices from various retailers online and at stores around town..

In addition to a yoga mat, a yoga blanket, yoga block, and yoga strap can be helpful props to support your practice. However, if you are just getting started, the most important items are a yoga mat and a yoga blanket.

For your convenience, we also offer yoga mat rentals and have yoga mats available for purchase at the studio.

  • If you are experiencing pain, it is important to consult with your physician or other qualified healthcare provider to determine the cause of the problem before seeking massage therapy and or attending a yoga class. Understanding the underlying condition helps ensure that you receive the most appropriate care and treatment.

Massage therapists can often play an important role in supporting recovery, reducing discomfort, and improving mobility. However, for your massage therapist to provide the safest and most effective treatment, it is important that they understand what is causing your pain and any diagnoses, recommendations, or restrictions provided by your healthcare provider.

The more information you can share about your condition, the better your massage therapist can tailor the session to your individual needs.

  • Yoga and massage therapy is not meant to replace medical diagnosis and/or treatment. If symptoms are severe or persist, you should always consult your physician.
